Performance : Planet [wanderer]

We are pleased to announce the Japan and Asia premiere tour of “Planet [wanderer],” a performance work by choreographer/dancer Damien Jalet and sculptor Kohei Nawa. The performances will be held at Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre and ROHM Theatre Kyoto in November 2025.
“Planet [wanderer]” is part of a trilogy of collaborations that began with “VESSEL” (2016). While “VESSEL” drew on the underworld (Yomi no Kuni) from Japan’s oldest chronicle, Kojiki, and the subsequent film Mist evoked the heavenly realm (Takamagahara), “Planet [wanderer]” focuses on the third world, Ashihara no Nakatsukuni—the earthly realm where we live.
In this work, human beings sway like reeds, caught between strength and fragility, harmony and survival, destruction and evolution. “Wanderer”, part of the title, echoes the original Greek meaning of “planet”—“a wandering body.” At the threshold between life and death, the piece explores the inseparable relationship between the human body, cosmos elements, and the force of gravity, presenting a unique vision born of collaboration between a Japanese sculptor and a European choreographer.
*VESSEL: Nominated for Best New Dance Production at the 2020 Laurence Olivier Awards.
