As 2025 comes to a close, we would like to share a brief look back on the year for Kohei Nawa | Sandwich. Over the past year, we have been fortunate to engage in a wide range of projects and collaborations, each made possible through the many connections and exchanges we share with our partners and audiences.

In April, Nawa presented his solo exhibition "Sentient" at SCAI THE BATHHOUSE in Tokyo. The exhibition further deepened his two-decade-long exploration of how material intervention generates interactions between perception, information, and matter, while posing new ontological questions about the existence of objects.

This year, the latest collaborative work with choreographer Damien Jalet, Mirage, was premiered in Geneva, Switzerland, and is scheduled to tour across Europe next year. In addition, Planet [wanderer]—their third collaboration—returned to the stage with its first Asian and Japanese performances following its European premiere in 2021, and is set to be presented across Europe and Asia next year.

Alongside this, screenings of a film work derived from the performance From the Edge with dancer Min Tanaka became the starting point for a series of related initiatives. These included "Dancer Meets Dancer," a public dialogue between Min Tanaka and fellow dancers, as well as the release of the art bookFrom the Edge and a vinyl record featuring the original soundtrack by Morihiko Hara, allowing the collaboration to resonate across multiple formats.

Throughout the year, Nawa’s sculptural works also created points of encounter in public and semi-public spaces, offering audiences different ways of engaging with his practice beyond the exhibition context. These included Snow-Deer at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Uncle Red at Ebisu Higashi Park in Tokyo, and Trans-Deer (Flame) at Nanjo Art Museum in Okinawa.

These projects were made possible through the commitment and generosity of many collaborators, partners, and audiences, to whom we extend our sincere thanks.

Looking ahead, we are in the process of preparing Nawa’s first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, details of which we look forward to sharing in due course.

As we move into 2026, we remain attentive to the processes of making, exchange, and presentation, and we deeply appreciate your continued support.
